Many people put off starting therapy because they are not sure what the first session will be like. That uncertainty is understandable, and it is worth naming.

It is mostly a conversation

Your therapist will ask what brought you in, what you have tried so far, and what you hope will feel different. You do not need a perfect summary. Starting with “I’m not sure where to begin” is completely fine.

We will also cover the practical side: how often to meet, fees, confidentiality and its limits, and how to reach us between sessions.

You are interviewing us too

A good fit matters more than almost anything else. Notice whether you feel heard and whether the therapist’s style makes sense to you. It is okay to ask about their training, their approach, or how they would work with what you are facing.

Most people leave a first session with a little more clarity and a plan for the next few weeks. That is a meaningful start.
