Depression often tells us to wait until we feel like doing something. The trouble is that the feeling rarely arrives on its own.

Action before motivation

Behavioral activation is one of the best-studied approaches for depression. The idea is simple: small, doable actions can gradually lift mood, even before motivation returns.

Start smaller than you think

Pick one tiny thing that used to matter to you. A five-minute walk. A text to a friend. Opening the curtains. Do it, and notice how you feel afterward, without judging the result.

If depression has made it hard to function for more than two weeks, please reach out. Therapy can help, and you deserve support.
